What is Active Directory Federation Services, and how does it work?
Active Directory Federation Service (ADFS) is a federated identity management solution. It extends the ability to use single sign-on (SSO) to access resources outside organizational boundaries. Simply put, ADFS provides a secure, authenticated way to access any web application, domain, or device on the organization’s active directory (AD).
To confirm the user’s identity and provide access to assets on the corporate network, ADFS SSO uses two or more pieces of information. They may include the user name, employee ID, or email address found in the organization’s database. ADFS functions much like the general SSO in that it authenticates the user’s identity and verifies certain access privileges.
ADFS is one of the most popular identity providers on the market. It is trusted and used by many corporate and governmental institutions to ensure the security of internal networks.
What ADFS SSO means for NordPass Enterprise users
Let’s get straight to the point. The main benefit of ADFS SSO is that it allows companies to integrate NordPass Enterprise into their existing IT infrastructure seamlessly. Businesses using ADFS as their identity provider will be able to use it as a form of authentication. That, in turn, will allow their employees to use company email addresses as an SSO option when signing into NordPass Enterprise.
ADFS SSO offers benefits to NordPass Enterprise users as well as solution Owners and Admins. With ADFS SSO, solutions admins can provide sign-on and access privileges based on a unified set of credentials. Furthermore, it is important to note that the NordPass Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) solution is fully compatible with ADFS SSO. That means you will be able to keep that extra layer of security with MFA.
Solution owners and admins can set up an SSO with ADFS in the Admin Panel. Here is a comprehensive guide on how you can do that.
