What are third-party logins?
Third-party logins are a form of logging in or signing up using existing information from a third-party service to access a website or an app instead of creating a new login account specifically for that website. The whole thing is designed to simplify the login and sign-up process for our users.
With the addition of third-party logins to Nord Account, our users will be able to use their Google account to access Nord Account.
It’s worth noting that third-party logins make things not only easier but also more secure. This especially applies to users who sign up with Google to their Nord Account, since it lowers the risk of their passwords being brute-forced.
It’s also worth noting that if the user is logging in through Google, it is not advisable to store the Google password on NordPass. In case of forgetting the Google password, the user would get locked out of their NordPass account.
How do third-party logins work?
Third-party logging in to Nord Account is a straightforward process involving just a few steps:
The user opens the Nord Account website and chooses a third-party platform to log in or sign up with. The options are displayed as a button “Sign in with [platform]”.
The third-party platform receives a login request and authenticates the user.
The user will log in or sign up to Nord Account once the third-party platform confirms their identity.
Third-party login relies on a few core components, namely OAuth 2.0 and OpenID Connect. OAuth 2.0 is a security standard designed for authorization and for granting access from one app to another. OpenID Connect is an extra layer placed on top of OAuth 2.0 and used to authenticate users.
I’m a NordPass user. Is there anything I need to do?
Current users can either use their current login credentials to access their Nord Account or use the new third-party login feature. Please note that if you opt for the latter option, your Gmail address should match the email address associated with your Nord Account. Another option is to connect a different email address in your Nord Account Settings if the current one does not match the one on the third-party platform. All new users can select the login option that meets their needs.
