Why change a Discord password?
You might need to change or reset your Discord password for one of two reasons — you’ve either forgotten it, or someone has stolen it and is trying to log in to your account. If you can’t remember your password, a reset is the way to go. It’s a simple process that requires either your email address or your phone number (if you’ve added it to your Discord account).
However, if your password is breached, you might be dealing with a bigger security problem. First, you need to change your password on Discord — this will automatically log your account out of all devices. Even if criminals manage to log in, they won’t be able to get back into your account. Then, ask yourself if Discord is the only platform with that breached password.
If you’re unsure, you can run a check with Password Health to see if any of your credentials are exposed. Update those passwords as well to keep all accounts secure.
How to change a Discord password
Changing your Discord password on the web, desktop, and mobile apps is straightforward. Although Discord might switch some elements around depending upon the interface, you can change the password in the “Account” section of the app settings.
Changing your Discord password on the desktop and web browser
Open the Discord app or go to discord.com/app on your web browser.
In the bottom left side of the screen, tap the cogwheel icon to the right of your username. This will open your account settings.
Under “Password and security,” locate “Password” and select “Edit.”
Enter your current password and the new password. Re-enter the new password to confirm.
Select “Done.”
After changing the password, you will be automatically logged out of all devices. You should also receive an email from Discord notifying you about this change. If you have received such an email but did not change your password, contact Discord support immediately — someone may be trying to breach your account.
Changing your Discord password on mobile
Open the Discord app.
Tap your profile picture in the bottom-left corner.
Tap “Settings” in the bottom-right navigation bar.
Select “Account.”
Under “How you sign in to your account,” select “Password.”
Enter your current and new passwords.
Tap “Change password.”
Use a strong password once you change it. We recommend your password be at least 15 characters long and consist of a combination of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers as well as symbols. You can use NordPass to generate and store your complex and safe passwords.
What should you do if you forget your Discord password?
For security reasons, Discord doesn’t let you retrieve an existing password via any means if you’ve forgotten it. Instead, you need to do a full Discord password reset.
Resetting your password
The flow to reset your Discord password is the same on the web, desktop, and mobile apps. To reset the account, you must know the email address or phone number associated with it.
How to reset your Discord password on desktop and browser
Open the Discord app or go to the discord.com/login website.
Enter your email address or phone number and click “Forgot your password?”
Discord will send you an email or a text message to sign in.
In the email, click the “Reset your password here” link.
Enter your new password in the field.
Click “Change password” to confirm.
How to reset your password on the Discord mobile app
Open the Discord app.
Enter your email address and tap “Forgot your password?”
In the email, tap the “Reset your password here” link.

How to find your saved Discord password without resetting the account
If you’ve forgotten your Discord password but don’t want to do an account reset, you can try to look for it on your device. Chances are you’ve saved the details when you logged in the first time. If you want to look for your password before resetting it, try your device or browser settings.
If you’re using the Chrome web browser, you can find your saved passwords in the Google Password Manager:
Launch Chrome and click the kebab menu at the top-right corner.
Hover over “Passwords and autofill” and select “Google Password Manager.”
In the search bar, type “Discord.”
If you have Discord credentials saved, they will appear.
If you have an Android, you can check saved passwords in the device settings:
Open the device settings.
Tap “Google services.”
Select “All services.”
Tap “Autofill with Google.”
Under “Manage,” select “Google Password Manager.”
Scroll through your saved password until you locate Discord credentials.
If you use an iOS device, you can also try to locate your Discord password in the settings:
Open device settings.
Tap “Apps.”
Select “Passwords.”
Tap “Open passwords.”
Verify with your Touch ID or Face ID to proceed.
Select “All.”
Scroll down to the letter “D” and locate “Discord.”
Open the item to view the login details.

As an alternative way to secure your account, Discord lets you add a passkey. Passkeys are a passwordless authentication method that uses encrypted digital credentials created with biometrics. Setting up a passkey lets you sign in and access online platforms faster, the same way you unlock your phone — via biometrics or a device pin. It’s quick, easy, and more secure.
Although you can find passkey settings on Discord under multi-factor authentication preferences, passkeys and MFA are different security measures. You can also optionally add MFA to your account. By default, Discord supports MFA with an authenticator app. You can set up NordPass to act as your authentication code generator.
Set up passkeys on the Discord mobile app
If you’ve reset your Discord password, the app might prompt you to add the passkey to your account as an easier way to log in next time. In that case, simply tap “Add a passkey” and proceed to step 6 in this guide. However, if you don’t have a suggestion to add a passkey in your home screen, you can do so in the settings:
Open the Discord app.
Tap your profile picture in the bottom-left corner.
Tap “Settings” in the bottom-right navigation bar.
Select “Account.”
You will see a suggestion box to add a passkey. Tap “Get started.”
If you don’t see the suggestion box, tap “Security keys” under “How you sign in to your account” and select “Add.”
Choose how you want to create a passkey. You can use a password manager, create it with your Android or iOS device, or enroll your device or an external key as a security key. For the purposes of this guide, select “Create a passkey with your password manager.”
Enter your password to verify.
Your password manager app will prompt you to create a new passkey. Tap “Create.”
Add a name for your new security key.
Tap “Finish.”
Discord will show you your available backup codes. Take a screenshot of them and store them in a secure location. In case you can’t log in to your account with a passkey, you can use one of these codes instead. Each code can only be used once.
If you want to delete your current passkey or add a new one, you can do so in the Account settings:
Open the Discord app.
Tap your profile picture in the bottom-left corner.
Tap “Settings” in the bottom-right navigation bar.
Select “Account.”
Tap “Security keys.”
To edit or delete your current passkey, tap the pen and trash bin icons.
To add a new passkey, tap “Add” at the top-right corner.
Set up passkeys on the Discord desktop app or website
Open the Discord app or go to discord.com/app on your web browser.
In the bottom left side of the screen, tap the cogwheel icon to the right of your username. This will open your account settings.
Under “Password and security,” select “Multi-factor authentication.”
Under “Security keys,” click “Add security key.”
Enter your password for verification.
A pop-up to register a security key will appear. Select “Let’s go.”
Choose your preferred method to create a passkey. If you use NordPass, the browser extension will pop up letting you save the passkey. Enter the title for your passkey and select “Create.”
Once your passkey is created, add a name for your security key on Discord and click “Finish.”
The desktop app and website will let you download your backup codes which you need to store in a secure location. If you don’t have backup codes and can’t access your account with a password or passkey, you risk permanently losing your access.
If you wish to edit or delete your Discord passkey, you need to:
Open the Discord app or go to discord.com/app on your web browser.
In the bottom left side of the screen, tap the cogwheel icon to the right of your username. This will open your account settings.
Under “Password and security,” select “Multi-factor authentication.”
Under “Security keys,” locate your key and tap the meatballs menu.
Select “Edit” or “Delete.”
What to do if your Discord password reset email never arrives
Sometimes you try to reset your password but the email with the necessary link doesn’t show up. If you’ve run into this issue, consider a few troubleshooting steps:
Look in the spam folder. Your email provider might flag the password reset email as suspicious, especially if you’ve requested multiple resets.
Check the email address spelling. Typos can happen. See if you’ve entered the right email address in the bar before you request the password reset. Chances are you accidentally let the wrong letter or number slip through, and your email was delivered to the void — or a very confused recipient who doesn’t even have a Discord account.
Try a different email address. If you have multiple email addresses, it’s possible you’re trying to input the wrong one. Try your other email address and then select “Forgot your password?” to see if it gets delivered.
Use your phone number instead. If the email doesn’t appear after multiple request attempts, try using your phone number instead and reset the password via the text message instructions.
Check your inbox for a changed email address notice. If you’ve changed your email address in the past — or if someone did it without your permission — Discord must have sent an email alerting you. Type “Discord email address changed” into your inbox’s search bar and see if you have any related emails.
Report the issue to the Discord support team. If the problem persists and you suspect someone may have changed your email address without your knowledge, contact support immediately and report a compromised account. Keep in mind that Discord’s support team can’t disclose to you what email address is used for your account.
Tip: Watch out for fake reset emails. Scammers sometimes send fake Discord password reset emails. Compare the time stamps. If they match with the time you requested the reset, you’re safe to proceed. If not, you might be dealing with a scam email.
What is the Discord account recovery window?
If you’ve deleted your account, or if a criminal has deleted it before you could restore your access, Discord gives you 15 days to restore it. To recover your Discord account, you need to:
Open the Discord app (mobile and desktop) or website.
Enter your email address and password.
Discord will show that your account is scheduled for deletion. Select “Restore account.”
Once the 15 days are up, all data is deleted, and your account can no longer be restored. If you’re trying to restore the account but can’t remember the password, you can proceed with the password recovery process first.
Keep a few specific scenarios in mind:
If you contacted the Discord Support team asking to delete your account, you will need to send it a request to cancel this process.
If you’re trying to recover your account and suspect it was compromised before being scheduled for deletion, contact the Discord Support team directly.
If your account is scheduled for deletion because it was banned or disabled by Discord, it can’t be restored. However, you can submit an appeal and try to overturn the deletion notice.
How to change your email address on Discord
If you no longer use the email address associated with your Discord account, you can update this information in the settings.
Changing your Discord email address on the desktop and website
Open the Discord app or go to discord.com/app on your web browser.
In the bottom left side of the screen, tap the cogwheel icon to the right of your username. This will open your account settings.
Under “Account info,” locate “Email” and tap “Edit.”
Discord will ask to verify your email address. Click “Send verification code.”
Copy the verification code from the email, paste it into the field on the Discord app or tab, and click “Next.”
Select the reason why you’re changing your email address and click “Continue.”
Enter the new email address and your current Discord password.
Select “Done.”
Discord will send an email to the new address for confirmation. Click the “Verify email” button.
Changing your Discord email address on mobile
Open the Discord app.
Tap your profile picture in the bottom-left corner.
Tap “Settings” in the bottom-right navigation bar.
Select “Account.”
Tap “Email.”
Discord will ask to verify your email address. Tap “Send verification code.”
Copy the verification code from the email, paste it into the field on the Discord app or tab, and tap “Next.”
Select the reason why you’re changing your email address and tap “Continue.”
Enter your new email address and tap “Change email.”
Enter your Discord password and tap “Done.”
Discord will ask you to confirm your new email address. Tap “Okay.”
Open the email from Discord sent to your new email address and tap “Verify email.”
