Secure every login with NordPass Authenticator

An authenticator app is used for two-factor authentication (2FA). When you have 2FA enabled on your account, you must prove your identity in two steps. First, you need to enter your password. Then, you provide something else to confirm it’s really you, like a code sent to your email or phone. For that second proof, you can use a code generated by an authenticator app, which updates every few seconds. Once you do that, you'll be able to log in to your account.

Log in to the NordPass Admin Panel as an organization Owner. Go to “Settings” and select “Use NordPass as an authenticator.” When the setup is complete, your organization members can start using NordPass as an authenticator.

Once enabled by your organization’s administrator, follow these steps to start using NordPass as an authenticator for your corporate accounts with two-factor authentication.

1. Log in to NordPass.

2. Go to “Menu” and open “Settings.”

3. Scroll down to “Item security” and select “Use NordPass as an authenticator” (mobile) or “Use NordPass Authenticator in this browser” (extension).

4. Follow the prompts to set up biometric authentication using your fingerprint or face.

5. After setting up biometric authentication, confirm it’s you by entering the verification code sent to your account email.

To add 2FA to an account, first log in to that account. Then, in the account:

1. Go to “Security settings” and turn on two-step authentication.

2. If given the choice, select “Authenticator app” (not SMS).

3. If needed, re-enter your password for this account with the help of NordPass’ autofill function.

4. Then, a QR code or secret key will appear.

Now, in NordPass:

1. Log in to NordPass.

2. Use the search bar to navigate to the account credentials.

3. Select “Edit,” then “Add two-factor code.”

4. When prompted, either scan the QR code or paste the secret key with NordPass.

5. Once you have completed step 4, a time-based one-time passcode (TOTP) will appear.

Go back to the account and enter the TOTP from NordPass to confirm. The next time you log in to this account, you will be prompted for a TOTP that you can unlock from the item in NordPass with your biometric data.

Is it safe to use NordPass as an authenticator?

Yes! Every item stored in NordPass is protected by end-to-end encryption, meeting the industry’s highest standard of security.

Plus, adding a second factor (2FA) with NordPass is more convenient and secure than using third-party apps or other password managers' two-factor solutions. Unlike other password managers’ “two-step” login solutions, NordPass keeps time-based one-time passcodes (TOTP) locked behind biometric data, meeting the security standard of true two-factor authentication.

A two-factor authentication method is a way of confirming your identity using two separate “factors” instead of just a password. Typically, the first factor is something you know (your password). The second factor is something you have or are. Examples include a verification code from an authenticator app, a hardware token, or biometric data, such as a fingerprint or Face ID.

Two-factor authentication (2FA) makes it much harder for attackers to access an account because it requires both factors to match, even if they manage to steal or guess your password.
