Twitch password change

Twitch has enjoyed an explosive rise in popularity, userbase, and online influence. Careers are made on this platform, and millions now use it as a primary entertainment source. To make sure you don’t lose access to your account, find out how to change your Twitch password, reset your linked email, and create a new username.

A Twitch password reset doesn’t take long, and it can save you a lot of frustration later on. Whether you’ve forgotten your login details or just want to improve your security, here’s everything you need to know.

Resetting your Twitch password

  1. Go to the Twitch site homepage or your Twitch App and click “Log in.”

  2. Click “Trouble logging in?” below the password box.

  3. Enter the email address or phone number associated with your account.

  4. Click “Continue.”

  5. Enter your username and click “Send my password reset link.”

  6. You’ll receive an email. Open it and click “Reset your password.”

  7. Set and confirm your new password.

If you don’t know your username, follow these steps instead.

  1. Go to the Twitch site homepage or Twitch app and click “Log in.”

  2. Click “Trouble logging in?” below the password box.

  3. Enter the email address or phone number associated with your account.

  4. Click “Continue.”

  5. Choose “I don’t know my username.”

  6. Check your email. You’ll receive a message containing your username.

  7. Return to the password reset process and continue with your recovered username.

Changing your Twitch password

Your login credentials keep your Twitch account safe and, in the event of any kind of security breach, your first step should be to change them. This is particularly important if you’ve been using the same password for multiple accounts: if one of them is compromised, the quickest way to isolate the damage is to change the others.

  1. Log in to Twitch and click on your profile icon in the top right corner.

  2. Click “Settings” on the dropdown menu.

  3. Open the “Security and privacy” tab.

  4. Choose “Change password” under “Security.”

  5. Enter your current password.

  6. Write down and confirm your new password.

  7. Click “Set password.”

Changing your Twitch username and display name

Your username, also known as your display name, is particularly important if you want to become a creator on the platform. When you get started as a streamer, your username will be an essential element in your branding: knowing how to change it can be really useful.

  1. Log in to Twitch and click your profile icon in the top right corner.

  2. Choose “Settings” from the dropdown menu, then go to “Profile.”

  3. Input your new username in “Profile settings.” Note that this detail can only be changed every two months.

  4. However, you can still adjust the capitalization of your username in the box below your username, even if it has not been two months since the last change.

  5. When you’re ready, click “Save changes.”

Resetting your Twitch email address

It’s not unusual to get a new email address from time to time, especially if you suspect the old account has been hacked. If you forget to update your Twitch details as soon as this happens, it can cause problems later on. Your linked Twitch email plays an essential role in the username and password recovery process, so if you need to change it, follow these six steps.

  1. Log in to Twitch and click on your profile icon in the top right corner.

  2. Click “Settings” on the dropdown menu.

  3. Open the “Security and privacy” tab.

  4. Click the pencil icon next to your current email address, under “Contact.”

  5. Enter and confirm your new email address.

  6. Click “Save.”
