Have you ever wanted to share a password or credit card information with someone, but only for a limited time? With Time-Limited Sharing, a new feature from NordPass, you can do just that—grant temporary access to an item, which is automatically revoked after a set period. Let us guide you through why, how, and when to use it.
What is Time-Limited Sharing, exactly?
As we briefly explained, Time-Limited Sharing is a new feature in NordPass that allows you to set a timeframe during which an item (or Shared Folder) in your vault is accessible to someone you're sharing it with.
Once the set timeframe ends, access to the item is automatically revoked. It's a secure, hassle-free way to share items from your NordPass vault with people in your work or personal life.
How does it work?
It’s really simple. Whenever you share something—whether it’s a password, passkey, credit card info, secure note, or even a Shared Folder—you can choose from 4 timeframes for how long the recipient can access it. Those timeframes are:
1 hour
1 day
1 week
1 month
Items shared using this way only come with “Can Autofill” and “Can View” permissions for the recipients, meaning they can't make any changes to the item or share it with someone else. Of course, if you need to adjust the timeframe or permission levels, you can customize them for each recipient at any time.
What are the benefits of using Time-Limited Sharing?
It’s easy to see how this feature brings a wide range of benefits, whether you're using it at work or in your personal life. Some of the key advantages include:
No loose ends: Since you only share sensitive info for a limited time, you no longer have to worry about someone still having access when they shouldn't.
Less manual work: No more manually revoking access or keeping a running tally of what you’ve shared with whom. It’s all automated, so you can focus on more important things.
Improved collaboration: Teams can work together more smoothly without the usual stress around sharing sensitive data. It promotes collaboration across employees and departments while keeping things secure.
This feature was designed with project managers, IT admins, risk and compliance managers, and other professionals in mind—people who work in fields where sharing quick, temporary access to data is key to smooth business operations. We’re talking retail, education, consulting, software development, advertising, and logistics here. If that sounds like you, you’ll definitely see the benefits of making Time-Limited Sharing part of your everyday activities.
So, when should you use this feature?
The Time-Limited Sharing feature is highly versatile, offering many potential applications both at work and at home. You can use it for:
Sharing access for temporary projects or contracts.
Making one-time payments (such as when you share a company card for an external transaction).
Collaborating with business partners to ensure that documents are only accessible for the agreed duration.
Sharing your Wi-Fi password with someone for temporary use when they are at your place.
These are just a few examples. We’re sure you’ll come up with tons of ways to make this feature part of your daily routine.
Just keep in mind that it’s always a smart move to update your credentials once sharing ends, especially if any sensitive details were involved.
So, give Time-Limited Sharing a try and see how it enhances your NordPass experience!
