NordPass vs. Keeper

Compare key NordPass and Keeper password manager features side by side, whether you’re securing a whole team or just your own personal accounts.

Keeper

Encryption

Unlike Keeper, NordPass uses the advanced XChaCha20-Poly1305-IETF encryption method that’s built to perform well on any hardware without AES acceleration. It resists timing attacks, is simple to implement, and offers flexible security margins, which together make it a strong alternative.

Keeper secures data with the end-to-end AES-GCM-256 algorithm.

Customizable password policy

The NordPass Password Policy feature lets organizations define exactly what security standards passwords stored in the vault must meet, enforcing strong criteria and driving the Password Generator to produce complex, randomized passwords. Teams can also track compliance against their internal policies, giving them clear insight and proof of adherence to security standards.

Keeper measures passwords against its own definition of what is weak, which can differ from an organization’s rules. So even when stronger generator settings are in place, anyone can still create or import passwords by hand that fall short, and Keeper may not flag them, because it judges passwords by its own framework rather than by the organization’s policies or character limits.

Data breach scanner

NordPass shows a longer list of breaches for the same account, and adds context such as exposed hashed passwords and addresses, with credit card monitoring also available for individual users.

Keeper provides a basic report on compromised sites without breaking down the type of data leaked. Some capabilities require the paid Advanced Reporting & Alerts add-on. It also shows fewer results than NordPass for the same compromised login and includes no credit card monitoring.

User-friendly account recovery

Recovering an account is straightforward. Users can either enter a Recovery Code or ask the organization Owner to restore access, with nothing to enroll in or configure ahead of time.

Users can reset their master password with recovery codes or a custom security question. If that answer is missing or forgotten, an admin can assist with the account recovery via Vault Transfer, but only if it was set up and accepted by the user in advance. Without that, Vault Transfer is unavailable.

User-friendly data recovery after the user is deleted

Even data that was never shared can be retrieved from a deleted user’s vault in NordPass, so nothing is lost. Admins keep the ability to restore access, hand the data to another user, and maintain business continuity.

Once a user is deleted in Keeper, their non-shared data is gone from that vault, though shared folders stay available to the organization. Preserving a departing user’s data, therefore, depends on the admin running Account Transfer before the account is removed.

Synchronized peer-to-peer sharing

Shared items in NordPass come with granular permissions and Time-Limited Sharing, so users decide who gets which access level and how long shared credentials or data remain available.

Shared items in Keeper come with granular permissions and time-limited sharing, so users decide who gets which access level and how long shared credentials or data remain available.

Organization-wide sharing control

Through the Owner role, NordPass gives a single, complete view of every shared folder and peer-to-peer item across the organization. Owners can see who created each one, who holds access, and which rights each recipient has, and they can grant, adjust, or revoke access to any shared company credential whenever it is needed.

In Keeper, admins gain visibility and control over shared folders only after being manually assigned as Shared Folder Admins, and peer-to-peer shared items stay outside their visibility and control entirely.

Built-in authenticator (2FA) retaining a second factor

NordPass includes a built-in Authenticator that runs smoothly on every device and autofills codes on desktop, sparing users MFA fatigue by entering credentials for them. For admins, it means employees use one tool across multiple authentication methods, keeping security and the user experience aligned.

Keeper can store and autofill TOTPs in its desktop app or extension, but viewing those codes requires no second-factor verification step, which weakens the protection two-factor authentication is meant to provide. A paid add-on is needed before admins can require users to re-authenticate with the master password or biometrics to edit, share, autofill, or unhide passwords.

Built-in email masking

Email Masking works out of the box, with no additional service to set up.

It is more reactive and works faster than the competition. NordPass also matches the cost-effectiveness ratio, but the bottom line is that it was selected because it is easy and convenient to use.
